Horos plans to launch a research project on "Interdisciplinarity and humanities: history and methods". We are looking for collaborators on the project.
The project aims to construct a theoretical basis for the operation of Horos. As Horos promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among humanities scholars, we need a systematic overview of the development of existing disciplines in the humanities as well as the idea of "discipline" and "interdisciplinarity". We would especially focus on the locus of change of humanities disciplines in the past century. From this historical analysis, we try to understand the origin and causes of the existing pitfall and crisis of the humanities, and contemplate for new modes of interdisciplinary collaborations in the humanities.
Expected research outcome:
The research finding will become an important reference for the constitution of Horos. The proposed new modes of collaboration will be implemented to the daily operation of Horos. We also plan to publish at least one co-author academic paper on a peer-review journal.
Prospectus Research Work:
The research work will be composed of 3 sub-topics: 1) The idea of "discipline" in history and its relation to university, philosophy, science, and technology. 2) The formation of today's academic system, including the emergence of the idea of "peer-review", "impact factor", "sub-discipline", and other core elements of academia. 3) The theoretical ground for interdisciplinary collaboration, including its relation to ontology, epistemology, psychology, and metaphysics.
Research Team:
It will be a research team of 3 - 4 persons. We expect that there are at least 1 historian, 1 epistemologist/philosopher, and 1 sociologist/social scientist.
Research mode:
It is a voluntary work, but you would have a chance to engage in collaboration with scholars from other disciplines.
Each scholar in the team will be responsible for one sub-topic (as listed above) under the research project. The research findings under the sub-topic is regarded as the individual contribution of the corresponding scholar. He/she may make use of the result of his/her part independently.
The co-author paper will be written together after the accomplishment of the individual research. The order of authorship will be discussed prior to the stage of co-authoring. You will sign an agreement which states clearly the terms and conditions of the collaboration.
Upon availability, we may apply for grant and funding for the project.
Participation:
If you are interested in the project, please kindly send us (daohoros@gmail.com) a short biography (500 words), a CV (<= 5 pages), and prospectus (<= 3 pages). Scholars with a relevant publication history and funding opportunity will be prioritized.
Deadline of application: Jun 10, 2022.
(For any inquiries, please join the membership of Horos and leave your comment under this post.)
